Privacy Policy
Effective 25 August 2026 · Last updated 25 August 2026
The short version
Perfumedia stores the fragrance collection you build, so it can sync across your devices. We use that data to run the app and nothing else.
We do not run ads. We do not use analytics or tracking SDKs. We do not sell or share your personal data with data brokers or advertisers. There is no third-party tracker embedded in this app.
Location is optional and off until you turn it on. You can ask us to delete everything at any time by emailing support@perfumediapp.com.
Who we are
Perfumedia (“we”, “us”) provides the Perfumedia mobile application and the website at perfumediapp.com (together, the “Service”). For any privacy question, or to exercise any right described below, contact support@perfumediapp.com.
What we collect, and why
Account information
When you create an account we store your email address and an account identifier. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive an identifier from them and the email address you choose to share — including Apple’s private relay address if you opt to hide your email. We use this only to authenticate you and to sync your collection between devices.
Profile information
Anything you choose to add to your profile: display name, bio, and an avatar (either an emoji or a photo you upload). This is visible to other users of the Service.
Your collection and activity
- The fragrances on your shelf and in your wishlist
- Wear logs — which fragrance you wore and when
- Reviews, ratings, note votes, and likes you submit
- Who you follow and who follows you
This is the core content of the app. Reviews, ratings, votes, and profile details you post are visible to other users. Your shelf, wishlist, and wear history are private to your account unless you choose to share them.
Photos
Two features use images, and both are worth being precise about:
- Bottle scanning. When you scan a bottle, the photo is sent to our server and on to an AI vision provider to read the label and identify the fragrance. It is used for that identification and is not added to your public profile.
- Avatar photos. If you upload a profile photo, it is stored on our servers and checked once by an automated moderation service when you choose it, to keep inappropriate images off the Service.
The app requests camera and photo-library permission only for these features. You can decline, and the rest of the app continues to work.
Location — optional
The daily recommendation is better when it knows the weather. Location is off until you enable it. If you enable it, we request a coarse device location and send the approximate coordinates to a weather service to retrieve local conditions. We do not store a history of your movements.
If you do not grant location permission, we may estimate an approximate region from your IP address using a geolocation lookup service, so prices and weather show in a sensible region. This is an approximation at city or country level, not a precise position.
Notifications
If you enable notifications, we store a push token for your device so we can send price-drop alerts and activity notifications. You can turn notifications off in the app or in your device settings at any time.
Technical and usage data
We keep counters of how often you use AI features (scanning and asking questions) in order to enforce fair-use limits and control cost. We do not operate an analytics or crash-reporting SDK, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Service providers
We use a small number of processors to run the Service. They receive only what they need for their function:
| Provider | Purpose | What it receives |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Hosting, authentication, database, file storage | Account, profile, collection data, uploaded images |
| Anthropic | AI: bottle identification, in-app answers, avatar moderation | The scan photo, your question text, or the avatar image |
| Open-Meteo | Weather for the daily pick | Approximate coordinates |
| IP geolocation services | Approximate region when location is off | Your IP address |
| Expo | Push notification delivery | Device push token |
| Apple / Google | Sign-in, app distribution | Authentication identifiers |
Retailer and affiliate links
Perfumedia shows prices from third-party retailers. When you tap a link to buy, you leave the app and that retailer’s own privacy policy and cookies apply — we do not control them.
Legal bases for processing (UK/EU users)
- Contract — to create your account and provide the features you ask for.
- Legitimate interests — to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and enforce fair-use limits.
- Consent — for optional permissions such as location, camera, and notifications. You can withdraw consent at any time in your device settings.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us to:
- Access a copy of the personal data we hold about you
- Correct anything inaccurate
- Delete your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Withdraw consent for optional permissions
Email support@perfumediapp.com and we will action your request within 30 days. We will never charge you for exercising these rights, and we will not treat you differently for doing so.
If you are in the UK or EU, you also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority. If you are in California, note that we do not sell or share personal information as those terms are defined under the CCPA/CPRA.
Deleting your data
To delete your account and everything attached to it, email support@perfumediapp.com from the address on your account, or use the account deletion option in the app where available. Deletion removes your profile, shelf, wishlist, wear history, reviews, votes, and any uploaded images. Backups are purged on a rolling basis within 30 days.
Data retention
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists. Scan photos are retained only as long as needed to complete the identification. Fair-use counters are kept on a rolling short-term basis. If you delete your account, we remove your data as described above.
Security
Data is transmitted over encrypted connections and stored on managed infrastructure with access controls, and database rules restrict each account to its own rows. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information.
International transfers
Our providers may process data in countries other than yours, including the United States. Where required, transfers rely on appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses.
Children
Perfumedia is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we make a material change, we will update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in the app. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated policy.
